Hyundai’s Kona is a youthful subcompact crossover SUV. Since 2018, the model has had an electric variant called the Kona Electric.
For 2024, the Kona range received a complete redesign and entered the second generation. The model was initially developed as an electric vehicle before being adapted for internal combustion engines. Hence, the 2024 Kona Electric offers more passenger and cargo space than the previous model, with a more fantastic range and a nicer driving experience.
Buyers can select from three trims:

The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric features a redesigned cabin sporting a hip and funky design with splashes of color on the dash and air vents. It offers 99 cubic feet of passenger space and can accommodate up to five adults. However, due to its standard power tilt-and-slide sunroof, the Limited trim gets slightly less space, at 97 cubic feet.
You'll notice the new dashboard design of the 2024 Kona Electric, which has infotainment and instrument cluster displays behind a single piece of glass. You'll also appreciate using physical, tactile controls for the climate control system.
Buyers can pick between black, sage green, or gray interior themes, depending on trim. The SE and SEL trims have cloth upholstered seats. Meanwhile, choosing the Limited trim means the seats are upholstered in Hyundai’s premium H-Tex® leatherette material.
The SEL and Limited trims get heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver seat. The Limited trim also adds ventilation for the front seats and a heated steering wheel. At the rear, all trims have a rear-center armrest with integrated cup holders.
The 2024 Kona Electric’s 25 cubic foot trunk offers six cubic feet more than the 2023 model. Furthermore, the rear seat offers a 60-40 split-fold function on all trims. Hence, this electric crossover can provide up to 63 cubic feet of cargo space.
Hyundai has comprehensively changed the exterior styling for the 2024 Kona Electric. It now features a near-grille-less frontal design with LED projector headlamps with auto on/off and high beams. LED daytime running lamps are also standard.
17-inch alloy wheels are standard across the range, as is acoustic glass for the front and front-side windows. Meanwhile, the rear windshield and rear-side windows have privacy glass.
Buyers can pick from a palette of seven colors for the 2024 Kona Electric:
Every 2024 Kona Electric has a single electric motor driving the front wheels. The SE trim puts out 133 horsepower and 188 pound-feet of torque. It also has an EPA-estimated range of 200 miles due to its 48.6-kilowatt-hour battery. Testing has shown the 0-60 time to be 8.6 seconds.
The SEL and Limited trims get 201 horsepower and 188 pound-feet of torque. These trims can do 0-60 in 6.7 seconds. They also have an EPA-estimated range of 261 miles due to a larger 64.8-kilowatt-hour battery.
Standard across the 2024 Kona Electric range is a drive mode selector with Normal, Eco, Sport, and Snow modes. The battery is topped up via regenerative braking. The driver can select from multiple regeneration levels via steering wheel-mounted paddles. Moreover, some levels can provide one-pedal driving under certain traffic conditions.
You can charge the 2024 Kona Electric's battery at home from its onboard 11-kilowatt-hour charger. The car can also be charged at a public DC fast charging station at up to 100 kilowatt-hours.
The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric offers an intelligent value proposition with plenty of range, tech, and performance. It's a great electric crossover for first-time electric car buyers and those looking for a newer model. So, why not take a test drive?
